#4555 Container Depot

A freight terminal where containers can be transferred between rail wagons and lorries. It sits on two grey baseplates, a 16x32 plate and a 32x32 road plate. The gantry crane moves backwards and forwards along the track and runs on guess what? - rails from the old 4.5V/12V train system! A carriage on the gantry slides along the top so that the grapple can move containers from the railway to lorries waiting on the roadway. A winch on the carriage raises and lowers the grapple.

One end of the gantry runs on rails on the ground but the other end runs on rails mounted on top of the building. Inside is an office, a canteen and a phone booth. Two railway workers are included and a lorry driver who works for the worldwide shipping company (or maybe he's subcontracted - I'm not sure.)

The twin-bogie container wagon has room for two containers and the lorry can carry one. There is a shipping company container, a recycling container and a container carrying a racing car.
