#3225 Classic Train

This is another LEGO US Shop at Home "exclusive" set but is also available in Germany for DM 149.95.

A rather curious design this set, has a bit of a Wild West feel to it, but still belongs to the otherwise modern <-o-> train company. Presumably called "Classic" because it resembles some of the old sets from the 4.5V and 12V ranges of the '70s and '80s. Or maybe it's because it is really quite similar to train sets from other manfactures such as Playmobil's set 4021!

Pulled by a small black and red 0-4-0 Steam Engine with gold trim this train has a tipper wagon, an open truck and a short passenger coach. The engine is quite cute but not very realistic, for example, where are the tanks to hold the water? The truck carries a mailbox, a chest and some tools in bucket. The coach is a bit odd in that it has no doors, just open ends, I thought even the earliest coaches had some kind of doors to keep the cold/smoke out. A barrow is also included.

Although there are no instructions for an alternate model there is a picture on the back of the box of a diesel/electric (it's not clear which) train with a station.

This set is unique because it is the first train set released in the train series that does not include any track.
